I couldn't care less about what I'm destined for. The only destiny that matters to me is the one I choose for myself.
~ Yamato Haseo

Yamato Haseo was a player of End War Online, and is the main character of End War Online: Invoke. He is also set to appear in End War Online: Cobalt Bullet.

Appearance[]

Yamato wore mostly black, with black combat shoes and pants and a black overcoat with white details, along with a gray short sleeved undershirt. He carried Freedom and Justice on his hips, Wolf 500 on a leg holster, and Virtue strapped to his back behind his left shoulder.

Two years after his defeat by Cyratel, Yamato's in-game appearance changed drastically. At 21 years old, he had grown his hair out considerably, his hair spiked much more and tied up in a long ponytail he had tied up with a red ribbon, as well as bearing a red lock of hair in the front and a long red streak down his ponytail. His outfit changed to reflect his new power and purpose, with black combat boots that reached up to his knees, black pants held up with a black and silver belt that held his twin handguns, with a white collared shirt underneath a black vest and a new black twin-tailed jacket with red accents and red inside lining and selective white trims, as well as a raised collar and silver decorations. His appearance overall had taken a more regal direction, though would retain its functionality.

Background[]

Real Life[]

Born to Ishi Haseo and Asuka Shizuka, and named after Yamato Ovan, Yamato was brought up in a good household. From a young age, Ishi trained him in his own personal art of swordsmanship learned from his time in Sword Art Online, and Yamato quickly took after his father in skills with a blade. Yamato was able to preorder both a RiftGear headset and a copy of End War Online a year before it was released.

End War Online[]

At the start of his career in EWO, Yamato, was a freelance mercenary, working well-paying jobs for whoever he could get work from. He gained the attention of the Mercenaries Guild from his work, which stole business from them, and eventually began to take sizeable cuts of profits from them, as he was willing to do the same work for less, as well as managing to complete contracts that were too much even for them. The leader of the guild, Drake Shaw, was able to track Yamato down and offer him a job with them, but Yamato made a counter-offer, saying that if Shaw and his entire team could beat Yamato in a gunfight, then he would join them. Yamato ended up defeating them all easily, and shortly thereafter was contacted by Maverick instead. Their leader, Chris Walker, offered Yamato a position on their team as well, and Yamato again declined, though when Walker accused Yamato of being Nephilim, Yamato capitulated and decided to join Maverick as their number five.

Yamato was a key player in the EWO Incident, with it quickly becoming apparent that he was at the center of events due to his status as the second Void Avatar. When it became clear that Yamato was being hunted by those who caused the incident, Yamato worked to both evade capture as well as discover who they were and why they were after him, all while working to become stronger in order to stop the Second Void Insurrection, which he was prophesized to cause. Yamato began to work with Naoto Asagami at this time, who also had an interest in finding those responsible for trapping everyone in the game.

After multiple attempts in capturing him, a group of Void Hunters was sent to track him down. Yamato had trouble dealing with the group, as their abilities allowed them to counter his own, nullifying his Void abilities and putting him at a disadvantage. It was at this point Yamato's father, Ishi Haseo, appeared and quickly dispatched them all. Yamato then began to work alongside his father in uncovering those who trapped them all in the game.

Eventually, Yamato was betrayed by Naoto while searching out a false lead. She had been contacted prior by the AEP with the offer of guaranteeing the safety of everyone in the game in exchange for Yamato. Using a trap, Naoto incapacitated Yamato and allowed his capture by the AEP before going into hiding.

During his two months of containment by the AEP, Yamato was hooked into a machine that drained his infinite Void energy to transfer into a host body in the hopes of reincarnating the first Void Avatar, Cyratel. During this time Yamato was trapped unconscious and unable to wake up.

When it was discovered where Yamato was being held, Ishi went on his own in order to singlehandedly clear out everyone there, followed by Naoto who, regretting her betrayal of Yamato, sought to help however she could. Shortly after being freed from the machine he was bound to, the first Void Avatar was successfully reincarnated, and the facility was destroyed by a powerful burst of Void.

After this, despite Naoto's attempts to reconcile with him, Yamato insisted he never wanted to see her again, and once again began working with Ishi in order to now hunt down and eliminate the newly reborn Cyratel as the Second Void Insurrection began.

The two eventually managed to track down Cyratel and engaged him in a fierce battle. Yamato, being far less experienced than Cyratel, was put at a disadvantage. However, Ishi, with his Voidwalker ability, managed to pressure the first Void Avatar, gaining the upper hand and nearly defeating him before succumbing to his illness, allowing Cyratel to impale him with his Void Soulblade before retreating. Yamato, unable to help his dying father, was entrusted with his sword, Raikiri, to replace his broken Virtue, before Ishi passed away. After this devastating defeat, Yamato disappeared without a word to anyone.

Yamato then reappeared two years later, changed drastically in both appearance and ability. Appearing in the throne room of the Queen of Hell, Rozalin, using his ability of Space Alter, his first order of business was to confront the Demon King Samael in order to discover more about Cyratel, his past and his abilities. While Samael was initially uncooperative, Yamato casually walked into his prison and used his power to subdue Samael, turning the Void within the Demon in on himself. Coercing the Demon King to reveal his secrets, Yamato then killed Samael outright, reclaiming the Void within the Demon King for himself. In exchange for eliminating Samael, Yamato sought to recruit the Demon Queen's assistance in fighting back against the encroaching Void.

Yamato then went back to Maverick in order to recruit their help, where he met Naoto once again with the rest of his previous team. It was explained that Naoto had been working with Maverick in his absence, and Yamato decided against disclosing what Naoto had done to the rest of the group when asked if anything was wrong. In private, Naoto attempted again to apologize for before, but Yamato again stated that he didn't want anything to do with her before leaving.

Yamato then travelled to Heaven in order to speak to the Archon, Michael Christen, for his allegiance in order to fight against Void.

Eventually, Yamato was once again hunted by Void Hunters, who had become a powerful force in combating the Void. While Yamato didn't wish to fight against them, he was given no choice and was forced to defend himself. Using their Void nullifying techniques and abilities, as well as their superior numbers, they successfully managed to back Yamato into a corner, managing to critically injure him and take off his left arm. However, Naoto then appeared and fiercely defended Yamato, managing to take out several Void Hunters, but losing her left eye in the process. Yamato then entered his Void State and overpowered the Void Hunters, killing the rest with his Void Soulblade before losing consciousness himself. They were then both rescued by Maverick.

After this, Yamato restored his own lost arm and visited Naoto in her recovery room, and was the first to greet her when she woke up. Yamato had regained some of his lost trust in her, and decided to allow her to accompany him from then on, with the two working together from then on and slowly reconciling their relationship.

Yamato, discovering Cyratel's intentions of claiming the True Soul for himself, needed to discover the location and the nature of the True Soul before confronting Cyratel. However, the only ones who knew of either only existed thousands of years ago, during Cyratel's own time. Upon discovering the existence of an ancient Rythulian known only as The Harbinger, Yamato planned to go back in time to speak to him, aware that his ability of Space Alter would allow him to do so. He made plans with Maverick and Naoto to give him a signal so he would be able to find his way back, and was successfully able to make his way back in time thousands of years, homing in on the beginning of the First Void Insurrection as his point of arrival.

Once back in time, Yamato managed to track down The Harbinger, who knew him by name, and was aware of who he was and where he had come from. The Harbinger expounded on the nature of the True Soul, explaining that only a Nephilim could handle the power of the True Soul, and that a Void Avatar, being the exact opposite of the True Soul, would invariably be destroyed by it, which would thereby erase Void from existence. The Harbinger told Yamato that the only true way to destroy Cyratel is to destroy Void entirely, which would also include himself. The Harbinger also spoke of Cyratel, expressing regret that someone with such potential had been led astray. He had hope in Yamato, however, noticing his strength and resolve to protect others.

Before leaving back to his own time, Yamato decided to visit Cyratel himself. Appearing before the first Void Avatar, Yamato asked him if he truly understood the weight of what he'd done and what it would cost him. Cyratel responded by saying he knew from the very beginning what he had to do and expressed no regrets in his decision. Understanding that nothing he said or did would alter future events, Yamato left and returned to his own time.

Towards the end of the EWO Incident, Yamato was prepared to battle Cyratel for the last time at the resting place of the True Soul. Naoto requested to join him, but he rejected this, saying that it was far too dangerous for her. He then thanked her for everything she did for him, and stated that he had forgiven her for what she had done. When Naoto realized that it may be the last time she sees him alive, she confessed her feelings for him, saying that she loved him. Yamato then turned back and kissed her, telling her that since she had said that now he had no choice but to come back alive.

Despite forbidding Naoto from joining him in his battle with the first Void Avatar, Naoto followed him and used Void Hunter techniques she learned from Jack Callahan in order to partially nullify Cyratel's Void Souldblade, allowing Yamato to strike through and impaled the first Void Avatar with his father's Raikiri, defeating Cyratel and bringing the Second Void Insurrection to its end.

Now approaching the True Soul, Yamato pulled out the Void that Cyratel had infected it with. In interacting with the True Soul, Yamato completed End War Online. The game then initiated an automatic server reset, beginning a new game cycle and resulting in everyone being able to log out once again, thereby ending the EWO Incident.

Post-EWO[]

After the End War Online Incident, Yamato married Naoto and had a daughter with her, Aika Haseo.

Yamato would work to establish rules and regulations involving FullDive technology, and petitioned the government itself for change in the field. He would found his own advocacy group which would eventually grow over four years into a full multinational corporation, named the Haseo Corporation, which was authorized to oversee and regulate all FullDive media and was in charge of all FullDive servers in the world in order to assure that incidents such as Sword Art Online and End War Online can never happen again.

Personality[]

Taking after his father and mother in more ways than one, Yamato was usually impatient, preferring to get things done immediately and right rather than waiting for things to solve themselves. He was a linear thinker, usually being the first to come up with a permanent solution to a big problem, even if the solution itself was impractical. Yamato had his own codes of honor and how he conducted business, and as a mercenary and bounty hunter in End War Online, this code was little known and often times not noticable when he was on a contract. He did have morals, however, and there were some jobs he would simply refuse to do, and if there was someone who came up to him with a job proposal that he truly found morally wrong in an extreme way, he was liable to shoot his own would-be contractor himself.

Yamato had a tendency to not take many things seriously, always facing a challenge with a wisecrack and a smile. As a Void Avatar, he was extremely confident in his abilities, and even genuinely enjoyed the power he had, even if he kept them to himself for the most part. Fully aware that he was in a league of his own, he was never intimidated and was always looking for something to challenge his abilities. As such, he held respect for those who could defeat him in other ways, such as outsmarting or outmaneuvering him. Yamato was aware that combat was his forte more than anything, and never pretended to know more than he actually did, though he did take great pride in being the best at the things he was good at.

In the two years after his defeat at the hands of Cyratel, Yamato had become a near spitting image of his father in both appearance and personality. He had become calm and more reserved, more quiet and less eager to show off than before. However, he was still very bold and confident, and could even be described as stoic. Yamato, however, despite his somewhat distanced personality, was still warm and friendly to others, never thinking twice about helping those in need. He sought to use his incredible power for justice and good, as opposed to the blind pursuit of power the Void Avatar before him displayed.

In his later years, Yamato had grown even wiser and more patient in his experiences after EWO, and prioritized his duties as a husband and father above all else, even while running a global corporation.

Abilities[]

End War Online[]

  • Faction - Human - Void Avatar
  • Occupation - Mercenary/Bounty Hunter
  • Main Equipment:

Yamato Haseo was one of the most well-rounded players of End War, being highly experienced in both firearms and melee weapons, as well as being fluent in hand-to-hand combat as necessary. He possessed multiple firearms, being skilled enough in their use to fight in close quarters with them in gun kata. In close range, however, his primary weapon was his signature katana, Virtue, with which he was frighteningly skilled. He had shown such prowess with the blade that he was capable of cutting bullets out of the air or deflect plasma fire. Further, Yamato's father trained him extensively in the Kyosho Style Traditional Martial Arts beginning when he was 6, and gave him deadly proficiency with hand-to-hand combat as well as with blades.

Yamato's Void abilities were manifested into a powerful weapon in the form of a black and white shadow that appeared around him, a physical manifestation of Void, known as the Void Soulblade. This weapon could attack enemies and defend against nearly all attacks, and is only rivaled by the Soulblades. The shadow attacked by being cast out and cutting into enemies, and as a defense it acted as a shield that could protect Yamato. He had demonstrated the ability to use the Void Soulblade at will, though he preferred not to in order to keep his true nature a secret.

Two years after his defeat by Cyratel, Yamato had become a full-fledged Void Avatar, rejecting his mandate by birthright and instead utilizing his extreme powers in order to fight back against it. His powers with Void have came to rival that of his predecessor's, with his control of Void becoming much more powerful. Yamato had at this point mastered a form of Space Alter that allowed him to slip into Void at will and reappear anywhere in any World with a perfect degree of accuracy. Yamato had perfected this ability to the extend that he is able to near passively use it even during combat, and could even displace individual parts of his body.
